InMotion Hosting Server Migration Guide
Prepared for Samuel at InMotion Hosting
This checklist defines what must be preserved, moved, pointed to the new server, tested, and finally removed from the old server.
Important: Old Server Is Corrupt
The old server is being abandoned because it is corrupt. It must not remain the production host. Recover and transfer only the approved website and email data described below.
1. Preserve Four Email Accounts
Move these four accounts, including their available mailbox contents, to the new server:
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. 2. Move the Production Website
Move the contents currently at:
wp.schooldataleadership.org
to the new production location:
https://www.schooldataleadership.org
Confirm the public site loads from the new server before closeout.
3. Retain a Development Site
Keep wp.schooldataleadership.org on the new server as a non-production development site and playground.
It will be used to test plugins, extensions, and new ideas without affecting the live website.
4. Point DNS to the New Server
Point the following domains to the new server, but leave their web spaces empty for now:
Empty means no website content is to be published on these three domains at this time. Preserve any DNS records required for the approved email accounts while changing web-hosting records.
5. Verification Checklist
Complete every test before deleting anything from the old server.
- Confirm all four email accounts exist on the new server.
- Send a test message from each account and confirm it is received externally.
- Send an external test message to each account and confirm it arrives.
- Confirm historical mailbox content was transferred as expected.
- Confirm DNS and mail records resolve to the intended new-server services.
- Confirm
https://www.schooldataleadership.orgloads correctly from the new server. - Confirm
wp.schooldataleadership.orgworks as the development site on the new server. - Send a Joomla test email and confirm that mail from
schooldataleadership.orgis delivered. - Confirm Joomla mail does not depend on the old server.
- Confirm DistrictSystems.com, Learnmedia.com, and Ghostmurmer.com point to the new server and contain no website content.
6. Final Step: Delete All Content from the Old Server
This is irreversible and must be the last step. Delete all website files, databases, email data, backups, staging files, and other account content from the old server only after every verification item above has passed and the owner has authorized final deletion.
- All required content is confirmed on the new server.
- All four email accounts have passed send-and-receive tests.
- The production website, development site, DNS, and Joomla email have passed verification.
- Final deletion has been authorized by the owner.
