The goal of Aspire is to identify learning gaps early on to help students stay on track for college readiness, while also preparing students for the content on the ACT. To do that, Aspire will also track college readiness using the ACT’s benchmarks. 

The Aspire has five sections that align with the ACT Plus Writing subject areas: Reading, English, Math, Science, and Writing.  Aspire includes a wide variety of question types.  Aspire questions can be multiple choice, short answer, or long answer (including essays and narratives). The questions also make students rearrange lists, correct math problems, or pick multiple answers from a set of choices. So even though the content is similar to the ACT's, the Aspire as a test is quite different.

The ACT still uses those scores to predict future ACT scores, based on when you took the test. For example, they would predict a higher future ACT score if an 8th grader earned a 410 versus a 10th grader, since an 8th grader has more time to learn and improve. However, the prediction is less straightforward than just adding a few ACT composite points. Furthermore, since the Aspire is so different, the prediction is not at all set in stone. ADAM is a K-7 comprehensive, diagnostic assessment of mathematics. It is aligned with NCTM’s (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) five content strands. ADAM K-7 thoroughly assesses a student’s complete mathematical understanding to provide a comprehensive picture of his or her strengths and weaknesses. In addition, ADAM K-7 uses revolutionary adaptive logic to maximize the amount of information obtained on each student while minimizing test-taking time and anxiety.

DIBELS ® (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of literacy skills. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures that can be used to regularly detect risk and monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills in kindergarten through eighth grade.

DIBELS was developed to measure recognized and empirically validated skills related to general reading outcomes. Each subtest has been thoroughly researched and demonstrated to be a reliable and valid indicator of early literacy development. When implemented as recommended, DIBELS results can be used to evaluate individual student development as well as provide grade-level feedback toward validated instructional objectives.

The research-based subtests are predictive of later reading proficiency and contribute to a composite score that is the single best predictor of later reading development. The measures are consistent with many of the Common Core State Standards in Reading, especially those for Foundational Skills. Combined, the measures form an assessment system of early literacy development that allows educators to readily and reliably determine student progress in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The DORA series expands reading into multiple sub-tests.  Reading ability is made up of many skills: comprehension strategies, vocabulary, sight-word recognition, phonics, spelling, phonemic awareness, and more.  Within each of these areas, a specific level can be found that identifies the ideal starting point for each student.  These points, also known as a student’s zone of proximal development, should never be defined by a student’s grade level.  They are determined by what each student actually can and cannot do based on a set of test items, not on single questions.  Single-question adaptive logic is the hallmark of screeners and summative tests’ analysis of students.  They make recommendations based on the data of the many, not the actual data of the one. 

DRA3 provides educators and their classrooms a criterion-based, authentic benchmark/interim assessment evaluating student reading level and reading behaviors in Kindergarten through Grade 8. DRA3 determines independent or instructional levels on reading engagement, oral reading fluency, and reading comprehension. For struggling readers, DRA3 helps create instructional groupings and informs instructional practice through progress monitoring and targeted skill-based interventions. The DRA3 Word Analysis is a collection of brief structured literacy assessment tasks with scripted lessons for instruction. The DRA3 is the most current version of the DRA.
